4th of July

Happy 4th of July! For the third year in a row we celebrated at the City of Kirkland parade, followed by an evening at Grandma and Poppy's block party. Kayla and Kenzie specifically remembered the way we had spent the 4th last year and were very eager to do the same thing again. We were able to convince them to watch the kid's portion of the parade rather than participating like we did last year. This turned out to be a great decision (from the girls' point of view) because many families participating in the parade throw candy out to the crowds. It was amazing how much the girls enjoyed the parade, largely due to the chance that the floats going by would possibly throw candy at any given time! Unfortunately, our camera battery died before we could get pictures of some of the fun floats.

Grandma and Poppy's block party was a big hit this year as well. Kayla and Kenzie had been waiting for weeks just to play the fishing game that the Lafayettes set up each year. The patriotic prices never fail to delight the neighborhood kids. Thanks Megan!

Kenzie surprised all of us by actually watching a good portion of the fireworks this year. We covered her ears for many of them but she remained outside with the kids until it was dark and the fireworks got bigger. Poppy was more than willing to join her inside for the last big fireworks!
