A White Christmas

Though we are now well in to 2009...I didn't want to miss writing about our spectacular, white Christmas of 2008 and the exciting start of the new year. At ages 4 and 5, Makenzie and Kayla were excited about every Christmas tradition this year. They remembered well all that had transpired in 2007 and wanted to repeat almost everything. They looked forward to Grandma's birthday cake for Jesus on Christmas Eve and eagerly left cookies for Santa under their stockings. They made sure to remind us that we would open stockings first in the morning, and wait for the rest of our family to arrive before we dove into the presents under the Christmas tree. In an effort to encourage the real Reason we celebrate we tried to decrease Santa's load this year...but this will definitely be a work in progress!

Christmas morning definitely did not disappoint and we were also blessed with a fresh four or five inches of snow. Thankfully, the beauty of the white Christmas did not keep Grandma and Poppy from arriving with our special guest Great Grandpa Bob. With chains on, Poppy's Prius made it just fine.

Before heading to Grandma and Poppy's house for Christmas dinner we were able to spend the afternoon playing in the snow with Uncle Michael. The fresh snow wasn't quite as good for sledding as the past week had been, but it was definitely great for building snowmen.

There is nothing as special as Christmas dinner at Grandma's house and we are so thankful for the precious gift of having family close by.
