Fishing at Gold Creek

Kayla's preschool class had their end of the year field trip today. We met the class at Gold Creek Trout Farm and after a small lesson the kids all got to catch their own fish. They were equipped with a pole, net, bucket and bait and sent down to the pond. Thankfully, Mrs. G was an excellent helper since both Kayla and Kenzie insisted on having their own equipment and fishing on their own. It took us a few minutes to catch on (I had never been fishing before and really had no idea what I was doing) but once we found a good spot the trout were quick to bite! Both the girls caught fish and I actually managed to scoop them out of the water and get them into the buckets. Kayla, Kenzie and I all screamed both times we caught a fish. Kayla didn't even want to stand close to her bucket once the trout was flopping around inside. We had a blast but we are definitely not fishers. Luckily a dad on the trip was willing to remove the hooks from the fish once they were caught! I'm not sure I could have managed that.

The girls were so proud of their catch and and they are very excited to have fish for dinner. Since Daddy is in Alaska right now we might have to wait until tomorrow to cook the trout!
